There are generally two three types of exterior trim installed these days for home repairs: pine, primed pine and a synthetic composite. I chose primed pine for the trim boards at the top of this garage because of convenience. I also installed a drip edge and replaced the air vent.
One of the most common synthetics is called Azek, which is available at Home Depot and most lumber yards. Azek is often chosen for exterior trim that comes close to the ground because it resists rot and insects, however it is twice as expensive as primed pine. I used Azek to replace vertical trim boards as well as the trim surrounding the window enclosures.
